Spring into Summer Ayr Home Tour

Saturday, June 3, 2006 10am-5pm

At the River’s Edge: 70 Rose Street
Built to fully experience the sounds, smells and sights of nature, this carefully designed home achieves its aim with its open concept kitchen and living room overlooking a huge deck. From the road, the elegant stone exterior of the residence gives the appearance of a bungalow, however a walkout on the lower level expands the space and gives access to the natural landscape. Be sure to stand on the porch and enjoy the serenity and tranquility of living at the river's edge. Built in 2005 by Hennink Construction, this is home of the Major family.

Modern Loft Living: 106 Stanley Street
From the windows perched high above Stanley St., this beautiful, modern loft is beyond compare. This elegantly styled home bears little resemblance to its original (1846) incarnation as a furniture store and an undertaker's office. This loft is a masterpiece of vision and craftsmanship with tin ceilings, original hardwood floors, exposed brick wall and a “sliding” wall. The graceful styling of the Greers is reflected in the superb use of space. Truly a gem, the magnificent views of Watson's Pond prove you can have an urban, modern feel in the Village of Ayr.

On the Edge of Town: 231 Main Street
This custom designed house was built in 2004 to meet the needs of the active Formica family.  With a welcoming front porch and bricked exterior, this home invites entry. The kitchen is the heart of the house with an island that promotes entertaining.   The great room boasts a cathedral ceiling, a large fireplace and a wall of windows.  A bridge within the home provides access to the deluxe master bedroom suite.  The children's bedrooms and bathrooms are not to be missed.  The large deck provides access to the hot tub and a view of the greenspace beyond.

The “Pett” Shop: 100 Scott Street
The house was designed by Thom and Susan Pett and built in 1986 around passive solar heating principles into a southwest-facing hillside to maximize solar exposure. The unique recreation room is “upstairs” with a walkout to backyard deck. The yard includes a pool, hot tub and multi-level decks/gardens. The upper yard is near the highest point in Ayr and offers a great countryside overview. The home has been enjoyed and survived by 4 children, 2 cats, 1 dog, multiple fish, hamsters, gerbils, snakes, chameleons, and is affectionately dubbed… “The Pett shop in Ayr”.

5. Farmhouse: 919 Drumbo Road
This century farmhouse is on a 50 acre working farm that was built at the time of confederation. Tim and Denise Higgins purchased the home in 2005 from Ken and Jean Fraser. Both families have lovingly restored and renovated each room in the spirit of the house. The original house has been expanded twice through the years, starting from the original "summer kitchen" Although the restored house has a magnificent modern kitchen, the warmth, comfort and ambiance of this century home continue to surround friends, family and visitors.

6. Out in the Country: 1426 Wrigley Road
This raised bungalow was built 30 years ago and has been extensively renovated by Peter and Linda VanDerHeyden. The faux paint finishes in each room were designed by an artist and are a feast for the eyes. They are truly one-of-a-kind. A wonderful great room with a tin ceiling overlooks a beautifully landscaped yard, flagstone hot tub & pool. The screened-in room allows the family to capture the outdoors and bring it into their home. The mature trees surrounding the property contribute to the serenity and seclusion of country living.
