Ayr Head Award

In 2003, the Board of Directors of the Fresh Ayr Festival founded the Ayr Head Award. The award is presented annually to an individual, organization, group or team that has made an outstanding contribution to our community. The purpose of this award is to recognize selfless actions that contribute to the betterment of our community.

Previous Award Recipients:
2003 - Fran and Jim Oliver
2004 - Patrick MacNeil
2005 - Tim Barrie
2006 – Todd McFarlane
2007 – Cinda Lund

The Fresh Ayr Festival Committee is proud to announce that Heather Snell is our 2008 recipient of the Ayr Head Award.

Heather Snell is a community leader, a visionary and a source of hope and an inspiration for us all.  For years she has shared her love of music with students, choirs, schools, and groups.  Her vision of Heather's Hootenanny for Hope transformed a barn into a vibrant community event which raised over $40,000 in support of the ALS Society of Canada.  Other fundraising causes for Heather include the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and the ALS Walk in Stratford.  While her fundraising abilities are phenomenal, they pale in comparison to her real strength - understanding that one person can make a difference and by sharing that philosophy Heather challenges and empowers us all.  She leads by example.

A plaque, donated by Pat Connell, hangs in the Ayr Library to commemorate the winners of the Award. The Award recipient is also given a small trophy to keep.  The award will be presented on Saturday June 21, 2008 at the Fresh Ayr Festival
